How Ettitude’s Bamboo Bedding Will Help You Sleep Better

Share

Is bamboo bedding really a sustainable option? Ettitude sets the record straight.

Is there anything better than climbing into a cozy bed after a long day? Seeing as we spend almost one-third of our lives in bed, we should probably be paying more attention to what goes in it—and on it.

Over the last couple of years, sustainable mattresses have gotten a lot of air time as consumers looked to make better options for themselves and the planet. But, there is a lot more to a healthy, eco-friendly bed than just the mattress.

Our sheets, pillowcases, and blankets come into contact with our skin, and we breathe in any chemicals on them—all night long. Polyester and non-organic cotton are still the overwhelming majority when it comes to sheets, but isn’t there something better? Bamboo bedding brand Ettitude is certain there is.

Is bamboo sustainable?

Bamboo is certainly having a moment, and for good reason. The plant happens to be quite sustainable. Bamboo is regarded as one of the fast-growing crops and it easily grows without the use of chemicals or pesticides.

Bamboo uses 500 times less water than cotton, according to Ettitude, and produces 52 percent fewer CO2 emissions. Additionally, the process that Ettitude uses to make its CleanBamboo fabric leaves little waste. Seventy percent of the bamboo harvested for Ettitude is used to create fiber, and the remaining 30 percent is composted. And because it is a vertical plant and regenerates over and over, bamboo requires much less land than traditional cotton.

Unlike Ettitude’s sustainable process, the refining process used for most bamboo is loaded with chemicals and ultimately creates a rayon (or viscose) material, which releases toxic waste into waterways and means the end fabric is no longer biodegradable.

Ettitude’s CleanBamboo difference

But Ettitude’s CleanBamboo products are different.

In the processing of its bamboo, Ettitude uses a non-toxic solvent that produces a non-hazardous effluent. The textile is created using a closed-loop system that recycles 98 percent of all the water used during processing.

Additionally, CleanBamboo fabric is stronger and softer than traditional bamboo textile and free from harmful chemicals.

Each sheet set from Ettitude saves 8,189 gallons of water, which is as much as 93 average Americans use in a given day. Additionally, choosing Ettitude’s sheets saves 25.9kg of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of driving 64.3 miles.

Ettitude has also gone the extra mile in its sustainability quest and is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, EcoCert, Global Recycled Standard, and is Climate Neutral.

Why should you choose bamboo bedding?

Aside from its sustainability attributes, CleanBamboo textiles also offer an array of other benefits.

Comfort

Want to get that silky smooth feeling of high-quality sheets without silk? Opt for bamboo. Ettitude’s bamboo fabric is extremely soft to the touch, even softer than its cotton counterpart. Crawling into a bamboo-adorned bed at the end of the night is such a treat.

Breathability

Bamboo sheets are also extremely breathable. Ettitude’s sheets will not trap excess heat under the covers so you can easily stay cool and comfortable, no matter the temperature outside—no down needed. If you struggle with temperature control at night, bamboo sheets are a good choice.

It is also nonabsorbent, so it will not strip the skin of oils. Not only is this better for the health of your skin, but it also means the fabric is less likely to stain.

Safe and Clean

One of bamboo’s most redeeming qualities is that it is naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial. This is largely in part due to its breathability. This feature helps to reduce moisture and in turn discourages dust mites from setting up camp. This also makes Ettitude’s sheets an ideal candidate for children and adults with sensitive skin.

Durability

Where cotton uses small strands of fibers woven together to create fabric, bamboo naturally has much longer strands. This means that premium bamboo is stretched across the entire length of the sheet making them less likely to tear and pill compared to cotton.
