The Best Sustainable Shoes and Boots for Fall From the Ethos Founders

Share

Step into comfort and style with these sustainable and chic shoes and boots for fall.

It’s been a long year inside, hasn’t it? For most of us, that’s meant shoeless meetings, shoeless Zoom happy hours, and shoeless couch-bound date nights. With kids heading back to in-person school (yay!), along with offices and businesses opening back up, there’s no better time to slip into a new pair of shoes and step into the sustainable future at the same time. These boots and shoes are all at the top of our lists, and for good reason. Made with sustainable materials, vegan leather, and attention to detail, they’re sure to be in heavy rotation. Just have a look!

Jackie’s Picks

Aera New York, Giselle—Naturl Python Effect

The best part about the fall season? It’s the boots. Even when living in warmer climates of Miami and Dubai, by the time October hits, I’m pulling out boots to pair with mini skirts and shorts. I already have my eyes on a few that I’ll be snagging in the next few weeks so I’ll be ready to go (and won’t have to worry about my popular size 8.5 selling out). On the top of my list are these grey python effect knee boots from vegan brand Aera. The neutral grey is perfect to pair with multiple outfits all season long. Aera New York makes its shoes from vegan and upcycled materials. Made in a factory powered by solar electricity and lowered Co2 emissions, these luxury boots are made with water-based resins.

Collection & Co, Elia Black Vegan Leather Cross Over Detailed Sandal

If you like to stretch out sandal season just a bit longer like I do, then these vegan leather sandals are sure to fit right into your early fall wardrobe. The black color and studs will edge up any wardrobe perfectly for the cooler temperatures. Collection & Co’s shoes are made from a variety of materials including pineapple leaf fabrics, recycled plastic, and materials leftover from previous collections. With efforts to manufacture responsibly, the collections are made in small quantities out of the small factory in Greece.

Bhava Range Hiker

Since I live on the mountainside in Colorado I am all about shoes that are functional yet cute. I wear boots year-round since I live at 9,000 ft, but they become my permanent attire by mid-fall. These adorable hikers from sustainable brand Bhava are my favorite for Colorado living. Cute enough to wear to the grocery store yet stable enough to keep me upwards once the snow starts falling. Their outer vegan leather is made without PCP, formaldehyde, PVC, or phthalates making them a fun, sustainable option.

Pīferi Mirage 100

For the not-so-practical, I am a sucker for over-the-knee boots. I love that I can wear them with jeans and instantly elevate my outfit, or really go to the nines and wear them with a black cocktail dress. There isn’t much I cannot accomplish with these babies! Pifere is an incredible London-based brand that is dedicated to social and sustainable responsibility. The company uses fair-trade factories in Italy and the BIOVEG-certified Bio Vegan App is composed of 48% bio polyols derived from nonfood and GMO-free field corn, and the soles are made with 100% pure cellulose.

Stella McCartney White Eclypse Sneakers

Every closet needs a good pair of sneakers—or two, or three. I have loved the resurgence in sneak popularity over the last couple of years. I mean, who would have thought that we would see sneakers grace the runways across the world? I love these sustainable rubber sneakers from our queen Stella McCartney. The color combination has me swooning. These are sleek enough to dress up or subtle enough for running to your favorite farmer’s market.

Jill’s Picks

Louis Vuitton Charlie Sneaker

Forget the handbag: luxury fashion label Louis Vuitton is launching its first unisex shoe this fall. And it’s the brand’s most sustainable sneaker to date. According to the French label, the new sneaker is made from 90 percent recycled or bio-sourced materials and is part of the brand’s shift to eco-conscious materials and practices. The perfect shoe to dress up or down any look, they’re sure to be all-season wear, and we’re counting the days until the October launch.

Stella McCartney Emilie Teddy Boots, Black

Two words: Stella McCartney. Has anyone done more for sustainable fashion? And style in general, for that matter? While these Emilie Teddy boots are certainly winter-ready, they’re just too cute to not wear them the second the weather cools. Made with alter mat vegan fleece, sustainable wood, and recycled polyester, the platform wedge heels take eco footwear to new heights—literally.

Balluta Omega Chelsea Boot

These handcrafted boots from Ballūta are made in Portugal with PVC-free patent vegan leather and sustainable, chromium-free microfiber, viscose, and cellulose lining. Designed to make any outfit instantly sensational, you’ll want to wear these all season long. With a brand DNA that’s cruelty-free and quality-committed, you’re going to love this company as much as you love the boots!
